FAQ
01
Why are our services so expensive?
Many people are unfamiliar with the costs associated with keeping even a single horse. It has been estimated that you need $10,000 annually to properly care for a horse and account for any emergency expenses that sometimes arise. Additionally, there are a lot of expenses that go towards our fuel for two trucks and trailers - all just to make it to the event. Two hours before and one hour after each event are necessary for grooming, harnessing, and hitching up. Driver fees and ground help also go towards the fees.

How fast can the horses travel?
Our horses can approximately travel at anywhere from 5 km/hr to 10km/hr.
Do the horses enjoy their job?
Draft horses were the original farm equipment! Yes, throughout history, Minis and Drafts have been used for various industries of pulling, either for mining or fieldwork. It is great for Draft horse muscles, bones, and joints to stay active so that they can support their heavy frames. Plus, when our horses see us getting ready for a job, they all come running to the gate as if to say "Pick me! Pick me!" We take special care to ensure our horses are healthy and comfortable when they are working. Add to that the fact that they get absolutely spoiled with rewards for their efforts and you have very happy and willing workers.

Isn't it hard to pull or carry so much weight?
Horses are naturally capable of carrying double their weight on their back and pulling four times their weight. With training they can pull more. To put that in perspective, our black Percherons weigh approximately 2300 lbs each. The Vis a Vis carriage weighs a mere 1400 lbs if fully loaded with seven 200 lb passengers including the driver.

Are the horses wearing shoes?
No, we rotate our teams of horses so that they don't exceed twenty hours on pavement. Horses hooves will naturally wear in the wild on rocks, so we allow them to wear naturally. It lets the horses feel if the hoof is uncomfortable, accomodate, and correct amount of pressure so it wears even. We would shoe our horses if they were to exceed a healthy amount of time on pavement or on advice of our farrier. Our horses are not just work equipment- they are our friends and a part of our family. Their feet are regularly cleaned, trimmed, and checked.
